Hi, Jiu Wu.

Food's almost ready. Another 20 minutes, I think. I kind of misjudged the time, haven't exactly been in a kitchen in a while.

[there seems to be soup on the stove!]

Ah, it's no trouble. I don't mind waiting, and it smells delicious.

[ meanwhile he'll pull up a stool and sit at the counter ]

Do I get to know what it is, or should I let it be a surprise?

Well, thanks. I can only hope its taste delivers on that.

[peering into the pot for a moment, and then leaning against the counter]

I'll leave that choice up to you. It's nothing special, though. Just something we used to eat a lot of when I was a kid.

[ grinning ]

You'll find I'm pretty easy to please when it comes to food.

[ to the point where he'll eat the whole animal and then some ]

I am admittedly a glutton. What's in it?

It does take the pressure off a bit.

A bunch of vegetables. White beans, carrots, onion, celery...tomato sauce as a base for the broth itself. When it's ready, there are olives and feta cheese to go on top.

[well, we're not quite at the succumbing stage just yet. but steps are being taken in that direction]

Alright, sounds like a good idea.

Just bowls and spoons?

[ going and rummaging through a few cupboards to find what he needs ]

Just those should be fine.

[there's a hearty, big loaf of bread on the counter and he's cutting off two thick slices]

[ pulling out a couple of big bowls and some soup spoons, then setting them out on the island with a couple of napkins ]

There, that ought to do it. It should be quieter in here than eating out in the hall.

Until people remember it's Monday and come in to prepare for tomorrow.

[but it's a lazy sort of nitpicking, and he comes over to lay the bread slices on the edge of the bowls]

Mm, I suppose that's also true. I think they usually pick it up from what's already made, though; instead of making something new.

I usually do too, actually. Didn't know about other people, though.

We usually keep snacks and things to make simple meals out of back at the cabin--sandwiches or instant noodles, that sort of thing.

Smart.

Jiu Wu gets the lion's share, because it's his dinner anyway]
