Ah, thank you. I'll get to the point, then. I was hoping I might be able to speak to Aya. After the snacks, if you like; I don't intend to make it sound like I didn't want to see you, as well.

[ushering you to the little low table and sets the bag there]

Aya, hello. You've been well?

[ he'll get to work setting these snacks out in a neat row, in the meantime ]

[Gives a slow nod] Things have been well. What about you?

Hmm, not too bad. That's why I wanted to talk to you, actually. I wanted to ask your advice as an older woman--ah, I mean, not "older", but not a teenage girl, if that makes sense.

[ scratching his head a little awkwardly ]

Ah, well. A young lady expressed the desire to date me a few months ago, but a few things happened, so I wasn't able to give her an answer until just recently. I . . . don't actually know if I like her as just a friend, or what, but we agreed to go on a few dates to see how things work out. We're both pretty bad at and have basically zero experience with this sort of thing, so I wanted to ask someone who might have a little more experience about the sort of things a girl might enjoy doing on a date.

[Oh this is adorable. You are adorable. This is utterly adorable]

What is she like?

Well she's . . . kind of the rough-and-tumble type, I guess? And she's really good with technology and building things. And funny; definitely funny.

What qualities do you like about her?

I guess kind of all of the above? I don't really know her as well as I'd like to. She tends to know when to kick my butt, though.

Any physical feature that stand out?

Well, she has pretty hair, and a super expressive face.

[ thinking about this a little ]

She has nice legs, too.

What does she like to do?

Hmm . . . I know she likes to build things, and plays guitar.

It sounds like you have a lot of places to start.

Mostly I was just sort of curious to know what sort of things people actually do on dates. And what sort of things girls might like to do on them. I mean, I know not all girls like the same things, but suggestions might be helpful.

You're at least right. She might not like the same things, but I can help.

Dates are essentially time to spend together to have fun and get to know things about each other. It's a trial so you can see if you can go further and be serious, so you're intention is correct even if you said it.

Try things that you both may like, or each her things about where you come from since she sounds the the intelligent person who wants to know more. You have to show and participate in activities together. Be creative and yourself and you'll do fine I think.

[ scratching his head a little ]

I'm not really sure what sort of things I could teach her, though. After about age ten I didn't really get to have the chance to learn anything that didn't directly relate to doing my job, and I haven't had much experience with the things most people my age would have. Say, going to an arcade or something.

What about her?

I don't know, to be honest. I know she had some rough patches when she was younger, but that's about it.

Mmmm. What about music?

I remember her saying something about doing open mic nights, but I'm not sure what type of music she likes.

You can ask her. The important thing about dates is being able to do something you both will be interested in You don't want her to be bored, or for you to lose complete interest.

Well, she already said I'm about 80/20 on the fun scale.

How cute.

I'm not really sure what to think, but I can live with that.
